The account is from her younger days as a journalist of her 1935 trip to a remote village hidden along the border of China and Cambodia. It is a place where mysticism and the spiritual unknown weave the lives of the village's inhabitants into a conflict amongst themselves over the secretive past of the land. Unable to stop reading her grandmother's journal she begins to notice strange happenings around her as the grandmother begins to repeat "He is here, he is here, he is here". Who has come for the grandmother, and what is the connection to the spiritual and destructive powers from the Village decades ago?
